HEAR HIS VOICE --> ARE HIS SHEEP --> ARE THE CHURCH
"He that will HEAR MY VOICE shall be MY SHEEP and him shall ye receive into the church and him will I also receive for behold THIS IS MY CHURCH." (Mosiah 26:21-22.)
Ordination in the Book of Mormon Church
The manner in which ordinations occurred in the Book of Mormon.
The person had to have ALREADY received their gift or call from God.
TEACHERS and PRIESTS
1 The manner which the disciples, who were called the elders of the church, ordained (Grk. "appoint") priests and teachers—
2 After they had prayed unto the Father in the name of Christ, they laid their hands upon them, and said:
3 In the name of Jesus Christ I ordain you to be a priest, (or, if he be a teacher) I ordain you to be a teacher, to preach repentance and remission of sins through Jesus Christ, by the endurance of faith on his name to the end. Amen.
4 And after this manner did they ordain priests and teachers, according to the gifts and callings of God unto men; and they ordained them by the power of the Holy Ghost, which was in them. (Moroni 3:1-4)
17 And it came to pass that none received authority to preach or to teach except it were by him from God. (Mosiah 23:17)
DISCIPLES or ELDERS
7 Now this was the cause of much affliction to Alma, yea, and to many of the people whom Alma had consecrated to be teachers, and priests, and elders over the church; yea, many of them were sorely grieved for the wickedness which they saw had begun to be among their people. (Alma 4:7)
1 The manner which the disciples, who were called the elders of the church, ordained priests and teachers—(Moroni 3:1)
14 And it came to pass that the seventy and first year passed away, and also the seventy and second year, yea, and in fine, till the seventy and ninth year had passed away; yea, even an hundred years had passed away, and the disciples of Jesus, whom he had chosen, had all gone to the paradise of God, save it were the three who should tarry; and there were other disciples ordained in their stead; and also many of that generation had passed away. (4 Nephi 1:14)
1 By the laying on of hands: And now it came to pass that after Alma had made an end of speaking unto the people of the church, which was established in the city of Zarahemla, he ordained priests and elders, by laying on his hands according to the order of God, to preside and watch over the church. (Alma 6:1)
